Ukhrul: A heavy thunderstorm on Saturday disrupted power lines in the Kasom Khullen Sub-Division, leaving the area without electricity for the past two days. The power line was damaged near Yeasom village within the Kasom Khullen block of Kamjong district, Manipur.

Devis Meitei Thongam, Manager of MSPCL (Transmission), told this correspondent that the power outage occurred when a tree fell onto the wires, severing them. Electricity is typically transmitted from the Thoubal station to the Kasom Khullen block substation and then distributed throughout the division.

Thongam mentioned that his department, along with volunteers from Kasom Khullen, plans to repair the power line today. They have requested the community’s cooperation in restoring power, as the department faces a manpower shortage.

Kasom Khullen Sub-Division has been experiencing severe thunderstorms for the past few days, with a forecasted thunderstorm on March 16, 2026.
