Imphal, May 1: The first day of the Career Guidance and Airport Familiarisation Programme kicked off today at the Conference Hall of Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, offering students an immersive experience into the aviation industry. The two-day programme, organised by Tangkhul Katamnao Long Dhanamanjuri University (TKLDMU), aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practice.
Designed as part of TKLDMU’s academic enrichment efforts, the initiative seeks to provide students with practical exposure to the diverse career pathways within the aviation sector. The inaugural sessions featured interactive presentations by professionals from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and various private sector stakeholders.
Key areas of focus included career prospects in Human Resources, Finance, Fire and Safety, Security Services, and technical departments such as Communication, Navigation and Surveillance Systems (CNSS). Industry experts provided in-depth insights into the operations that sustain the day-to-day functioning of the airport.
Chipemmi Keishing, Director of Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, encouraged students to remain ambitious and adaptable, noting that the aviation sector is full of exciting and rewarding career opportunities. “With the right mindset and skillset, you can be part of a dynamic and ever-evolving global industry,” he said.

A detailed career counselling session was conducted by representatives from Air India, who offered guidance on roles such as cabin crew, ground staff, and hospitality professionals. Students were advised to cultivate self-confidence, professionalism, and a strong personal presence to succeed in the competitive aviation job market.
Participants also had the opportunity to tour various operational units within the airport, including the Control Room Monitoring System, Immigration and Security Checkpoints, the Inner Line Permit Office, Hospitality Services, and Radar & Technical Operations. These site visits allowed students to observe airport management systems in action and gain a deeper understanding of aviation safety protocols and service coordination.
The programme is expected to conclude tomorrow, May 2, with further sessions and interactive experiences. Organisers hope the initiative will inspire students to explore the vast and expanding opportunities within India’s growing aviation industry.
