Kohima: Director General of Police, Nagaland, T John Longkumer, IPS, launched Tourist Police Emergency Helpline No. 112 for communication of Tourist Police in the form of a dedicated digital wireless channel at State Police Control Room, Kohima, today.
Longkumer said Nagaland Hornbill Festival is the state brand fest which is known not only in India, but all over the world. He therefore urged the helpline operators to attend to the call with utmost sincerity and in the most welcoming way.Â
He also mentioned that during the last edition of Hornbill Festival, it was a huge success as there was no report of crime. He was optimistic that the launching of this Helpline will further enhance the security of the visiting tourists and citizens in general.
Delivering a brief note on the Helpline No. 112, Er S Changkri Konyak, DIG (Commn) said 112 is an all India emergency Helpline number. To enhance communication with Tourist Police, the state police control room has integrated an additional future in the form of a dedicated digital wireless channel.
He also informed that the control room has been integrated with the installation of one digital set each in the police control room as well as at the Hornbill Police Station at Kisama. In addition to this, a digital repeater set was also installed at North Police Station and 30 digital Walkie Talkie was issued to tourist police personnel.
He said that through Helpline 112, tourists can call 112 through their landline or mobile number. To coordinate emergency, the call will be further transmited to tourists personnels deployed in Kohima and beyond.
