Two Covid-19 fatalities in Ukhrul take death toll to 14

Amid surge in the spread of Covid-19 infections in the district, district magistrate Ukhrul as part of the preventive measures to contained the spread of the dreaded disease from the public, extended public curfew in the whole revenue district of Ukhrul beginning Saturday till June 11.

As Covid-19 claimed two more life on Saturday, the total death tally reached 14 while the total active case surged to 124 in Ukhrul district. The two deceased has been identified as Redeemson Ramror, 54, of Seikhor village in Ukhrul district and Shangathan kashung, 72 of Hunphun village at Leishiphung Christian Hospital.

Out of the total 124 active case in the district – 18 are from district isolation ward, Transit Covid Care Centre 7, Jessami isolation centre 24, Lambui isolation centre 2, Tongou village community isolation centre 4, Shangkai 3, and Maichon community isolation centre 1.

Altogether five (5) positive patients has been discharged on Wednesday, according to district surveillance officer, Ukhrul.

In view of the impending threats of the COVID-19 pandemic in the area and to prevent spread, district magistrate Ukhrul in exercise of the powers conferred upon him under Para 12 of the Manipur Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulations, 2020 had sealed, barred entry and exit of population from the four containment areas and directed to initiate active surveillance of Covid-19 cases with immediate effect.

The four containment areas declared containment zone with immediate effect are residences of Late Athan Kashung H/o Angam Kashung, Khamphasom tang Ukhrul; MH Maya H/o Shainot MH, New Canaan village; Horthingla Ngalung D/o Phayet Ngalung, Ringui village and Abiko Ngalung D/o Khanong Ng, Ringui village.

Any person, institution, or organization found violating the above measures shall be deemed to have committed an offence under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code and Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the DM order stated.

The public curfew imposed in the district amid spiraling of positive case had ended on Friday. However, with increase in the spread of infection in the nine districts of Manipur including Ukhrul, the Home department, Government of Manipur had order for extension of curfew for another 14 days.

It may be stated that as Chairperson, state executive committee had issued orders for extension of curfew for another 14 days effective May 29 till June 11, 2021, in view of the increasing trends in the spread of COVID-19 infection, Joseph Pauline Kamson, IAS, district magistrate Ukhrul had prohibited movement of any person outside their respective residence with immediate effect.

Residents of nine districts comprising of Senapati, Kangpokpi, Kamjong, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Pherzawl, Noney, Tamenglong and Jirribam has been disallowed to travel to Ukhrul. Similarly, people of Ukhrul has been barred to travel to the above nine districts.

Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Ukhrul, Joseph, IAS, along with consultant from Guwahati, medical superintendent Ukhrul, UADC CEO and SDO Chingai Saturday inspected the site for oxygen plant to be set up within the district hospital Ukhrul.
