Two injured including one BSF jawan in separate firing incidents in Manipur

Imphal: A Border Security Force jawan sustained bullet injury in a fresh violence at Sugnu area of Kakching District on Thursday morning. The jawan of the 136 Battalion BSF D’ Coy was posted at Sugnu Higher Secondary School. He sustained bullet injury on the right side of his abdomen and was rushed to Sugnu Sub District Hospital.

Amid the ongoing Manipur violence, Sugnu area remained relatively peaceful but it came under attack from suspected Kuki armed assailants, reportedly from Lailoiphai and Dongyang villages in Churachandpur District since Wednesday wee hours. The assailants fired bombs and bullets towards Sugnu injuring one person on Wednesday evening. BSF, State forces along with valley groups have been carrying out retaliatory measures to repel the perpetrators.

Firing incident at Pukhao Shantipur area in Khamenlok hill range adjoining Imphal East and Kangpokpi Districts left one Meitei injured, reportedly a village volunteer, on Thursday morning in what is now a hotbed of attacks and counter attacks between Kuki-Zo and Meitei armed groups using bombs and sophisticated weapons.

The injured person is identified as Ningombam Angangtombam alias Rakesh (26) from Pukhao Khabam Awang Leikai. He was rushed to Raj Medicity at North AOC in Imphal with bullet injury on his right leg. He is said to be out of danger.

Firing incidents at Pukhao Shantipur area started since Sunday around 10 PM.
