Bishnupur: Two Malayan Box turtles were rescued from Toubul and Thinungei of Bishnupur district and handed over to a team of Wildlife Explorers Manipur and staff of DFO Bishnupur on September 29, 2023. The two turtles were handed over by Khangembam Ramananda Singh of Toubul mayai leikai and Tongbram Nanao Singh of Thinungei mayai leikai on Friday morning.
The turtles were found curled up in a fishing net at Loktak this morning while fetching grass for cattle. Later, the turtles were relocated to their natural habitat in Jawa Lamjao with the staff of Bishnupur Forest Division under the supervision of Dr Rebeka Soibam Chanu, MFS, district wildlife warden and divisional forest officer Bishnupur.
Moreover, Wildlife Explorers Manipur reminds the public that turtles are more likely to appear around Loktak Lake and rivers this season, as reported by Wildlife Explorers Manipur, and that if turtles are seen anywhere, please notify the forest department and NGOs immediately, so they can be saved. Furthermore, we should be aware of the value and importance of wildlife conservation.
