IMPHAL, Dec 7: The Tribal Youth Council, Manipur (TYCM), General Headquarters, stated today that it “fully endorses and extends its unwavering support” to the demand made by the All College Tribal Students’ Union, Imphal, for the immediate release of the pending Scheduled Tribe (ST) scholarships.

The TYCM alleged the Manipur Government of continuously neglecting the tribal communities across various sectors and termed the delay in disbursing ST scholarships as a clear violation of students’ inherent rights.

“It is deeply concerning that key tribal institutions such as the Tribal Affairs & Hills Department, Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribes (MSCST), and the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) are in a state of collapse,” the TYCM stated, while adding, “With most staff retired and only a few remaining personnel struggling to maintain operations, these institutions are unable to address the needs of the tribal population effectively”.

The TYCM then appealed to all tribal civil society organizations to unite and raise a collective voice to pressure the Manipur Government to address “our grievances and fulfill our charter of demands”. It added that their solidarity and support are crucial to achieving justice and equality for the tribal communities of Manipur.

The TYCM strongly urged the concerned authorities to resolve the issue without further delay and release the pending ST scholarships at the earliest.
