Ukhrul, September 8: The Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM) has raised serious concerns over the functioning of the Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Limited (MTDC) following an inspection of its Lamphel office today. The inspection, led by TYCM General Secretary Robert Gonmei, revealed that the office was largely unattended, with only a few staff present sporadically.
TYCM officials reported that the office complex had retained rainwater and was overgrown with grass, highlighting poor maintenance. Staff members informed the team that the General Manager and certain employees were operating from the Directorate of Tribal Affairs & Hills Department due to inconvenience at the official office.

The inspection also uncovered that MTDC staff have not received their salaries for nearly 19 months, leaving them struggling to manage family and personal expenses.
Speaking on the issue, the TYCM questioned how tribal development could progress under such conditions and urged the State Government to take immediate action. They called for the immediate release of pending salaries, clearance of rainwater and overgrown grass, and strict instructions for MTDC staff to attend their designated office to ensure effective operations in the interest of Manipur’s tribal communities.
