UKHRUL: The Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), Council Headquarters has appealed to the Imphal–Saikul Road Joint Development Committee (ISRJDC) to immediately withdraw the proposed indefinite shutdown, keeping in view the observance of Christmas, 2025 and the New Year, 2026.
Expressing its concern over the news reported in local daily newspapers on Tuesday, stating that the ISRJDC has announced an indefinite shutdown of the Imphal–Saikul road stretch with effect from midnight of December 24, the TYCM-CHQ appealed to the ISRJDC to reschedule the proposed indefinite shutdown after January 5.

“During this festive season, people from different communities, including non-Christians, frequently travel to participate in Christmas and New Year celebrations. Moreover, church leaders and members travel to and from their respective villages and Imphal for essential preparations, including the procurement of necessary goods and materials for Christmas and New Year programmes. Any disruption of movement during this crucial period would cause serious inconvenience to the general public,” the TYCM-CHQ stated.
The TYCM–CHQ cautioned all concerned that if any unwanted incidents occur due to disruption of movement or the imposition of any bandh during this festive season, the concerned parties should be held solely responsible for such incidents.
It may be mentioned that the TYCM-CHQ had on Monday appealed to all civil society organisations and groups to refrain from imposing bandhs or causing any form of disturbance between December 23, 2025 and January 5, 2026, citing the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
