NEW DELHI (SHABD): EU Chief Ursula von der Leyen praised British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for bolstering ‘European’ security after he announced his resignation. She posted on ‘X’ stating, “It can take many leaders years to grow into the statesman you became in just two years. European and Ukrainian security is stronger because of you. Thank you, dear Keir.”

German government has praised British Prime Minister Keir Starmer as a reliable and close partner in foreign policy matters, specially regarding Ukraine related questions. This came in hours after Starmer said that he would resign.

At a routine press briefing, the Spokesperson for Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Stefan Kornelius said that Germany expected a E5 (or European Group of Five – France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and the United Kingdom) meeting scheduled for June 24 in Berlin to ‘proceed as planned.’

The Kremlin said that the departure of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, a strong supporter of Ukraine, was unlikely to change what it characterized as London’s hostile attitude towards Russia.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Starmer has not done anything to distinguish himself on the issue of British-Russian relations. Peskov added that he has always been in favor of keeping relations at a zero level.
