UKHRUL: Ukhrul Times has learnt from sources that passengers travelling on the Ukhrul-Imphal route were reportedly stopped near Mongkot Chephu village by armed militants on Wednesday.

According to preliminary information received from credible sources, a Winger van travelling from Ukhrul towards Imphal was allegedly hijacked. In a last phone call made in haste, one of the elderly passengers reportedly informed family members that the vehicle had been forcibly stopped and that the passengers were being taken away at Shangkhai and Mongkot Chephu, a small Kuki villages under Ukhrul District.

Reports circulating on social media also claim that passengers travelling along the Imphal–Ukhrul road were stopped near Mongkot Chephu village. However, official confirmation from the authorities was still awaited at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, there are also reports of a confrontation between armed groups in the Thoyee and Shangki (Kuki village) hill range since around 9 am on Wednesday.
