Ukhrul Celebrates 78th Naga Independence Day

Ukhrul: Ukhrul celebrated the 78th Naga Independence Day with a great spirit of patriotism and enthusiastic participation from huge people at the Headquarters Ground, Ukhrul.

President of Tangkhul Naga Long, Sword Vashum, hoisted the Naga flag and CAO of Wung Tangkhul Region, W. Sayai, read out the speech of Ato Kilonser.

Speaking at the occasion, Sword Vashum stated that “India would be held responsible if at all the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks fail. India has never conquered the Nagas. Before the departure of the British, given the background of our land and the way of our forefathers, the Nagas have already made known to the Queen of England and to the whole world through UN, that we will not be under the control of any race. This declaration by our leaders in the past is very significant and must be fully acknowledged and appreciated by all the Nagas. This is the foundation, and on this basis, we are celebrating the Naga Independence Day.”

In a historic rise of patriotism and for the first time, hundreds of people from different walks of life participated in today’s celebration. School children, comprising of 16 parade contingents, took part in the parade. “Eyes To The Right” (daahine dekh) and “Eyes To The Front” (saamne dekh) echoed the Headquarters ground as the parade contingents gave heart warming salute to the Naga Flag.

Rev. Somi Kasomwoshi, Pastor of UTBC, invoked a prayer in memory of the martyrs. Participants gave a revolutionary and patriotic salute to all the fallen heroes and to all the national workers who have sacrificed for the Naga cause.

Khavangkhui Rungsung, Deputy Home, WTR extended his warm welcome to the gathering. Patriotic song performances by Masot Khon and AS. Weapon enthralled the crowd, adding more colour to the celebration.

In a celebration at Shirui Village, organised by Raphei Katamnao Long, a 1959 veteran of Naga Army, AS. Cain of Tusom CV attended the occasion as Chief Guest. People from Raphei area and neighbouring villages attended the celebration.
