UT News Service | Ukhrul, August 1: Ukhrul District on Friday recorded 46 new COVID-19 Positive cases out of which 43 are Assam Rifles personnel quarantined at Industrial Estate, T M Kasom quarantine centre, two are from Assam Rifles, Somsai and the other a flight returnee from Block-1 Transit Quarter, Phungreitang, Ukhrul district. Industrial Estate, T M Kasom quarantine centre has in quarantine three battalions of the Assam Rifles from Kamjong, Shangshak and Somsai, other news sources informed.

The District Megistrate on July 31, declared the whole campus of 27 Assam Rifles, Somsai and Block-1 Transit Quarter, Phungreitang as containment areas under “The Manipur Epidemic Diseases COVID-19 Regulations 2020”, in view of the impending thread of the spreading of COVID-19.

The new cases have taken the virus count in the state on Friday to 2667. On Friday 116 new cases of COVID-19 were officially recorded in the past 24 hours while Ukhrul registered 46 Positive cases. Among them, 19 are suspected to be locally transmitted cases with 10 from Thoubal district, seven from Imphal West and two from Tamenglong district. Tallying the total number of new cases on Friday to 162. The state has tested 85,441 samples so far according to COVID-19 Common Control Room.

The Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul also the Chairman DDMA had from July 15 under Section 65 (1) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, to accommodate inmates converted the Industrial Estate, T.M. Kasom as quarantine Centre for 27 Assam Rifles till September 15, 2020 or until further orders. The order by the District Magistrate of July 15 stated that “necessary arrangement and management including logistic support of the quarantine centre will be borne by the 27 Assam Rifles, Somsai, Ukhrul”.
