With panic gripping the residents of Langdang village in Ukhrul district following detection of two Covid positive cases in the village, the district administration has Monday declared the entire village a containment zone.

The district administration had earlier declared one residential house in the village a containment zone on September 20.

According to sources, the village authority consulted the district’s chief medical officer and district surveillance officer and urged them for declaring the village a containment zone as locals were panicked over possibility of community spread after detection of the two positive cases in the village.

In an order issued Monday evening, the district administration declared the entire geographical area of the village a containment zone and further directed the entire residents of the village to completely refrain from moving out of their home and to remain in isolation under home quarantine with immediate effect and until further orders.

The two residents who tested positive for Covid-19 were among the 15 primary contacts who underwent rapid antigen test (RAT) following detection of a positive case from a patient of Leishiphung Christian Hospital (LCH) on September 19.

It is said that Covid status of the patient of the private hospital was detected during RAT test at Dungrei testing centre the same day. The patient reportedly returned from Imphal on September 15 last and developed the symptoms on the fourth day.

On Spetember 20, the district administration brought the patient’s residential house located at 7th Finance Commission Quarter in Ukhrul town and another house belonging to a relative at Langdang village under containment zone.

Active surveillance and contact tracing by the district surveillance team is in place in the village and a DSO team would be conducting testing of all close/primary contacts on the fifth day.
