Ukhrul DM directs owners of licensed arms holders to deposit fire-arms in view of upcoming state polls

Ukhrul: Ahead of the ensuing Manipur state 2022 general polls, the district magistrate Ukhrul, Krishna Kumar IAS, has directed all the owners of licensed arms holders to deposit their fire-arms to Police Stations concerned with immediate effect.

The DM Ukhrul orders was issued following the directive of the state Home Department order to deposit fire arms ahead of the state general assembly polls to maintain law and order.

The order warned that failure to deposit the licensed fire-arms is liable to be punished for violation of State Government instruction under the relevant provision of Arms Act, 1959 ( read with Arms Rules, 2016.)

It may be stated that Secretariat Home Department, Government of Manipur vide letter No.7/1/2021-H(Guns) dated October 25, 2021 had directed to all the district magistrate to issue suitable notifications for deposit of all licensed guns to the police stations concerned at the earliest “in the interest of maintaining law and order”.
