Ukhrul: The Ukhrul District Administration has made necessary arrangements for ensuring free, fair and violence-free elections. Ukhrul district will go to polls on 26 April 2024 at 141 polling stations and 4 special polling stations for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP).
SP of Ukhrul, Karthik Malladi (IPS) informed that “adequate security forces including central paramilitary forces are being deployed in various vulnerable polling stations. Additional quick response teams are being deployed in all sectors to attend to any law and order situation situations. The district police are confident in preventing any mischief by miscreants and providing a free and fair election atmosphere to enable voters to come in large numbers and exercise their right to franchise. Police machinery plays an important and crucial role in conducting elections in a transparent, free and fair environment. According to the information received, there are 44 vulnerable areas and 17 critical areas as identified by the Election Commission of India. Central forces will be deployed in all vulnerable and critical areas. There are 22 polling stations each in 44-Ukhrul Assembly Constituency and 45 Chingai Assembly Constituencies under the Vulnerable category. There are 7 critical polling stations in the 44-Ukhrul Assembly Constituency and 10 critical polling stations in the 45-Chingai Assembly Constituency.
Around 13 companies of central forces and 1000 personnel from the state police will be deployed at the 145 polling stations. 16 Mobile Teams, 6 Zonal Commanders and 6 Striking Reserve teams have been set up as a quick response team for election day.
Around 414 vehicles have been requisitioned for the election. 120 vehicles were moved out on Wednesday ferrying polling officers and security personnel to 58 polling stations in Ukhrul district.
On Thursday, polling officials along with security personnel for 87 polling stations will depart for their respective polling stations.
