Imphal: Ahead of the Second Phase of the Lok Sabha Polls for Outer Manipur, the Indo-Myanmar International Border in Tengnoupal district has been sealed, and Assam Rifles units concerned have been directed to properly man the sealed Indo-Myanmar border.

The border was sealed with immediate effect from 23 April 2024 until 27 April 2024 in view of the forthcoming General Election to Lok Sabha 2024 for the Tengnoupal Assembly Segment, 2- Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency, which is scheduled to be held on April 26.

Krishna Kumar (IAS), District Election Officer/DM, Tengnoupal, issued an order to this effect on Tuesday following the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India to seal International borders 72 hours ahead of the poll to weed out possibilities of infiltrations of undesired elements from across the border.

It may be mentioned that the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar Border is suspended for a period of 6 (Six) months with effect from 16th February 2024 in view of the prevailing Manipur conflict between Meitei and Kuki Communities.
