Ukhrul headquarters observes 8-hour shutdown over bomb attacks

Ukhrul: Ukhrul headquarters on Thurday observed total shutdown from all normal activities from 5 am till 12 pm, spearheaded by the apex CSO, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) along with other Tangkhul civil bodies.

The total shutdown was called in an emergency meeting on Wednesday in the wake of repeated bomb explosions in Ukhrul town, for which TNL and Tangkhul civil bodies have expressed disappointment.  

The Tangkhul civil bodies fearing possible attack have alerted Tangkhul womenfolk (Meira paipis or female torch bearers) to stay vigilant with Charmei. It also expressed disappointment over the beefing up of State commandos in Ukhrul town instead of taking other measures such as installation of CCTV in order to nab the anti-social elements.

The Tangkhul civil bodies further called for shutdown beginning 6 pm till 5 am every day, in Ukhrul headquarters, until further notice.

Fire service, telecom, media and medical departments remained [will remain] exempted from the total shutdown.
