Ukhrul: Senior advocate Vakham Zimik dies at 89

Ukhrul: Former Tangkhul Naga Long president, Vakham Zimik from Pharung village passed away on Tuesday morning after brief illness. He was 89.

Late Vakham Zimik held several key posts during his lifetime for the good of the people. Among many of his significant contributions to the Tangkhul society, particularly in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, he served as the president of TNL from 1972 till 1975. He was also the speaker of TNL.

He was one of the founding members of Union Baptist Church, erstwhile Ngarumlong Baptist Church in 1988.

Sr. Advocate Vakham Zimik was the former president of Bar Association Ukhrul and died while serving as the Oath Commissioner.

Vakham Zimik was the co-pioneer of the Tangkhul Shanao Long, the apex civil body of the Tangkhul women union. He also served as the former president of Tangkhul Zimik Shang (Clan) for two terms from 1984-86 and 1986-90 consecutively. He played key role within his clan’s circle and gave his valuable time as the History Committee of Zimik Shang from 1997-2023.

Among his other contributions, he served as Member Discussion Forum Ukhrul, as well as Legal Advisor to Tangkhul Baptist Church Association till date.
