115 wrestlers to compete at 1st District Level Jr Indigenous Wrestling

Senapati: 115 wrestlers from across the district have been enrolled to participate in the proposed 1st District Level Jr Indigenous Wrestling (Pya Cha in local dialect) competition scheduled for November 22 at Astro Turf ground, Senapati. The event is organised by the Senapati District Wrestling Association, Manipur (SDWAM) in collaboration with the Red Shield Division, Indian Army.

According to a statement from the Senapati District Wrestling Association, Manipur (SDWAM), 115 participants have been enrolled in 3 categories below 50 kg, 50-60 kg and above 60 kg.

Each champion would fetch a prize of Rs 30,000 cash+medals+certificates and runners up Rs 20,000 cash+medals+certificates.

Huge fans from across the district are expected to arrive at district headquarters on the inaugural day scheduled for November 22.

18 players are stated to wrestle under the 50 kg category; 56 players under the 50-60 kg category and 29 under the above 60 kg weight category. 

The match is scheduled to start at 10 am sharp on November 22 while the wrestlers are directed to report to the ground by 9:30 am. The game is stated to play on a knock out system.
