UKHRUL: The Ukhrul District VDF Welfare Association on Friday extended its solidarity for the resumption of the indefinite gun and pen down Strike called by the all Manipur VDF Employees WeIfare Association, VDF Central Committee.
The Ukhrul District VDF Welfare Association alleged that the Government of Manipur has failed to fulfill the long-standing demands of the Village Defence Force (VDF) Personnel till date despite repeated memorandums and representations submitted by the Central Committee.
The government had earlier assured that a committee would be constituted to address the demands within two months. However, no official order has been issued to fulfill the VDF demands till date, though the matter was discussed twice.

The core demands of the VDF included implementations of section 18 of the Police act 1961, regularizations of VDF service, and increase of VDF honorarium.
On December 15, the VDF Central Committee announced at the press club, Imphal, that if the government fails to fulfill the VDF demands by issuing a formal order on or before December 22, the indefinite gun and pen down strike will be resumed thom December 23.
Expressing its full support to the central committee, the Ukhrul District VDF Welfare Association urged the Government of Manipur to immediately address and fulfill the legitimate demands of the VDF personnel to avoid further escalation of the agitation.
