UNC Urges Strict Compliance Against Border Fencing

Ukhrul, Jan 27: Reiterating its stance against the proposed border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border, the United Naga Council (UNC) has urged the Nagas to ensure strict compliance with its earlier directives and remain steadfast in standing against the Government’s move.

The directive urges the Naga people, particularly those within the Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) jurisdiction, to ensure that no activities related to border fencing take place and to prepare for any potential eventualities. This was issued as a follow-up to the earlier directive dated October 29, 2024, and per resolution 2 from the Presidential Council Meeting held on November 7, 2024.

The UNC has called upon its esteemed units and subordinate bodies in the affected areas to take decisive measures to prevent such activities within their jurisdictions, acting collectively and without fear or favoritism. The council has also warned that any individual or organization collaborating with implementing agents for favors, or cooperating or assisting them will face serious repercussions as per its established resolutions and stance.

Furthermore, the UNC has urged the Nagas of Manipur to remain resolute in opposing what it perceives as a nefarious plan by colonial powers to alienate the Nagas from their lands by constructing barriers along the ‘imaginary’ Indo-Myanmar borders. It has also advised the Nagas to stay prepared for any eventualities.
