UNC Rebuts Kukis’ ‘Lie Campaign and Victim Card-Politics’

UKHRUL: The United Naga Council (UNC) has issued a strong rebuttal to what it describes as the “Kukis’ lie campaign and victim-card politics,” while setting the record straight on several recent incidents.

In a press release, the UNC stated that while it unequivocally condemns all forms of killings, regardless of community, it felt compelled to expose what it called “blatant false campaigns and deliberate misinformation.”

Addressing the controversy surrounding the two deputy chief ministers, Losii Dikho and Nemcha Kipgen, the UNC argued that comparing the two was misleading. The council asserted that the Committee on Tribal Unity’s (CoTU) demands to remove Losii Dikho were “totally unfounded, politically motivated, and an attempt to deflect from the truth.”

“Shri L Dikho is a leader serving for the welfare of the public, irrespective of communities, and has been tirelessly and sincerely working for the restoration of peace in the state. His position cannot be equated with that of fellow deputy chief minister, Smt. Nemcha Kipgen, wife of the head of KNF-P, Shri Semtinthang Kipgen @ Thangboi, who is responsible for the Leilon Vaiphei massacre of six innocent Naga men. Equating the two is a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and the world,” the UNC stated.

The UNC further argued that Naga legislators, including Dikho, had rightly demanded either that Kipgen step down or that she call upon her husband’s organisation to cease fighting and killing Nagas. The council maintained that this demand “has all merits and should be supported by all right-thinking individuals and organizations.”

“It is also constitutionally and morally untenable for a person whose immediate family heads an armed group accused of the Leilon massacre and other killings to continue holding the second highest executive post in the state. Hence, calls for Shri Dikho’s removal are a diversionary tactic to cover their own wrongs,” the statement continued.

Commenting on the Tazeikaphun incident, the council rejected the claims made by the Kuki Inpi Manipur, asserting that there was an “unprovoked attack on a Naga village by Kuki armed militants” over three consecutive days since October 29, 2026. During the exchange of fire, three Kuki cadres were reportedly killed on October 31, 2026.

“After committing aggression, they are now running a global propaganda campaign portraying themselves as victims and claiming they were attacked by Nagas. The unfounded accusation against NSCN and ZUF-K is misleading. The world must be informed that the Nagas were the victims of Kuki aggression at Tazeikaphun and other areas, not the perpetrators,” the council asserted.

Addressing the discovery of two bodies in Senapati and the role of the additional superintendent, the UNC noted that the Naga People’s Organization (NPO) had questioned the circumstances surrounding the recovery of the bodies and called for an impartial, transparent, and independent investigation. The council emphasized, “Transparent and impartial investigation should be conducted to establish the truth, ensure accountability, and prevent further communal tensions.” It also expressed concern over previous allegations regarding the handling of sensitive cases by Additional SP Thangkhochon Haokip.

“The attempt to frame Nagas for the deaths of two Kukis found in Senapati without any investigation, coupled with procedural lapses, is biased and condemnable. The questionable role of the officer concerned is nothing but manipulation of facts to inflame communal tensions and a dereliction of duty,” the UNC stated.

Furthermore, the UNC condemned what it described as an “indiscriminate act of arson,” which resulted in several homes in T. Khullen, Maram village, being razed by a Kuki armed group at around 3:30 PM on November 1, 2026, allegedly in the presence of central security forces and Kangpokpi Police. The council questioned the inaction of security personnel and called for the immediate arrest of those responsible, as well as appropriate compensation, relief, and rehabilitation for the affected villagers.
