Imphal, August 5: The United Naga Council (UNC), the apex Naga body in the state of Manipur, has warned one Ashang Kasar, while accusing the latter of undermining the “notice of stricture” issued by the Naga apex body few days ago on the issue of an event slated for August 9.
On July 30, the United Naga Council (UNC), through a ‘notice of stricture’, had asked “all members of the Naga community (under its jurisdiction) to refrain from participating in the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples by unmandated organisation in the name of Indigenous People’s Forum, Manipur, on August 9, 2025, at City Convention, Palace Compound, Imphal”.
The UNC said today that due to numerous reasons, factors and complexities, given the prevailing dynamics and situations, that the Nagas under its jurisdiction should not participate in the said event. The UNC further said that it functions and acts with visions. “What is detrimental for us and what is not cannot be always spelt out in the media. We don’t dictate. The UNC works and functions with the Naga political movement as the guiding parameter. If any Naga attempts to banalise the Naga political issue and situation or challenges the Nagas, then such a person is deemed fit to be dealt with befitting actions,” said the UNC, though it does not spell out the nature of actions.
The UNC then reiterated all the Nagas under its jurisdiction to refrain from participating in the August 9 event.
