Union minister Nitin Gadkari assures completion of Ukhrul-Imphal NH-202 by May 2024

Ukhrul: Union minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said the Centre government aims to complete the construction of National Highway-202, Imphal-Ukhrul road by May, 2024.

Nitin Gadkari gave the assurance in response to an unstarred question raised by Rajya Sabha MP and Titular King of Manipur, Leisemba Sanajaoba in the upper house today. MP Leisemba Sanajaoba expressed disappointment about the delay in completing the road expansion project of NH-202 Imphal-Ukhrul road from Yaingangpokpi to Finch Corner which has been pending for three years. He enquired the reasons for the delay and when exactly it would be completed.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari responded that completion of the project was hampered due to delays in the process of land acquisition and forest clearance. He said that the project is being executed in two packages; 17 Km stretch of the road in Package-1 and 14 Km stretch of the road in Package-2.

Nitin Gadkari further said that for the first Package, land required for construction of 16 Km out of 17 Km and 14 Km for the second Package has already been handed over by the state government and the forest department is carrying out forest clearance works. He added that compensation estimate for the 860 meter stretch of the road is being finalised by Ukhrul and Kangpokpi DC.

Stating that physical progress of Package-1 is 52.03 per cent and that of Package -2 is 43.52 per cent, the union minister assured that construction of NH-202 is targeted to be fully completed by May next year.
