Womenfolk protesters attempt to attack Mark T Haokip at court complex

Imphal: A large number of women on Thursday staged a protest when Mark T Haokip was produced in the court of Imphal West Session Judge.

The court sent Haokip to judicial custody till June 21, 2022.

On hearing that Haokip will be produced in the court today, a large number of women led by leaders of various women based organisations converged at the gate of the Cheirap Court complex where the court of Imphal West Session Judge is also being housed.

On seeing the police escorting Mark Haokip to the court complex, the womenfolk attempted to attack the controversial human right activist who is in police custody after he was re-arrested as self-styled president of “Government of the People’s Democratic Republic of Kukiland.”

They shouted various slogans demanding harsh punishments to man for his alleged defamatory remarks against freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu.

Taking part in the protest, leaders of the Kabui Mothers’ Association (KAMA) demanded a harsher punishment for Mark Haokip for the alleged defamation of the freedom fighter.

Mark Haokip was arrested by a team of Manipur police from Kishangarh area of New Delhi on May 25 in connection with a FIR case against him for his alleged objectionable posts on social media.

Since the arrest, as many as 10 organisations based in the state have been demanding a harsh punishment for Haokip for his defamatory remarks against freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu.

It can also be made here that the Manipur police re-arrested the controversial human right activist while claiming that he is the self-styled president of an underground outfit.
