Half Marathon Marks World Environment Day 2025 in Makhan Village

Ukhrul, June 5: The Makhen Students Union (MSU) organized the 1st MSU 1.0 Half Marathon on Thursday in observance of World Environment Day 2025, under the theme “Healthy Planet, Healthy People”. 

The event was conducted in collaboration with Mothers International School, Lower Makhan, 131 Bn BSF, and 86 C-Coy CRPF, Leikhampokpi, the MSU said in a statement.

The marathon, flagged off by KS Nautiyal, Commandant of 131 Bn BSF and AB Humang, Chairman of Makhan Village Authority, covered a distance of 10 KM. The race kicked off from Makhan Football Ground towards 57th Mountain Red Shield Division, Leimakhong and culminated at the starting point. Over 200 runners participated in the marathon, it stated. 

The event drew enthusiastic participation from Makhan villagers, BSF and CRPF officials, and local youth. Inspector Somipam Kapai, Officer-in-Charge of 86 C-Coy CRPF, also participated in the run, inspiring younger participants with his involvement, it added.

In the Male Category, Sagar Poudel of Tispari, Kanglatongbi, Imphal West won the first prize while Pourimyibe Pame of Phoklong, Tamenglong district and Praveen Dhungana of Hathikhuwa, Kanglatongbi, Imphal West won the second and third prize respectively. 

In the Female Category, Lungbenwangliu Malangmai of Makhan village, Kangpokpi district won the first prize, while Merina Goimei of DM University, Imphal West and Widouliu Marenmai of Makhan village, Kangpokpi district won the second and third prize respectively. 

In the Children’s Category, Bikash Kawar of Tispari, Mothers International School, Lower Makhan bagged the first prize, Anmol Bandhari of Tispari, Mothers International School, Lower Makhan got second, and the third prize was won by Widiangbou Abonmai of Makhan, Mothers International School, Lower Makhan.

Winners in each category received certificates, mementos, medals, and cash prizes. All participants were awarded a certificate and a sapling, promoting the environmental initiative through a plantation drive, the MSU further mentioned. 

The organisers – MSU, Mothers International School, BSF, and CRPF – extended their heartfelt thanks to all attendees and contributors for making the event a grand success and encouraged everyone to continue preserving and protecting the environment, it added.
