Ukhrul, October 19: The Yonex Sunrise BWF World Junior Championships 2025 concluded on Saturday at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati, Assam. The tournament, held from October 6 to 19, marked the 25th edition of the event and the second time India hosted it since 2008.
The championship saw participation from emerging talents across the globe and drew appreciation for its smooth conduct and organisation.

Among the technical officials appointed for the tournament were four from Manipur. A. Laiba Meitei (Imphal East), Tomrex Hodam (Imphal West), Kurrwar Roel (Chandel) and Worleichan A. Shimray (Ukhrul).
Notably, Worleichan A. Shimray, a National Umpire under the Badminton Association of India (BAI), became the first woman from Manipur to serve as a technical official at a Badminton World Federation (BWF) international championship.
Adding to the pride, Shym Kumar from Manipur served as the Team Manager of the Indian contingent, overseeing coordination and guiding the team throughout the tournament.

The event was widely seen as a milestone for Indian badminton, showcasing not just the country’s young talents but also its growing pool of technical officials and administrators on the global stage.
It may be mentioned that Worleichan A. Shimray from the Tangkhul community and Kuurwar Roel from the Moyon community in October 2024 successfully passed the Umpires Grade-II Final Examination, conducted by the Badminton Association of India.
