Ukhrul, Mar 1: The Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) today destroyed seized items of heroin, opium and other intoxicants at their office campus at Ukhrul Headquarters.

The WTR seized 45 soap cases of heroin, 1.5kg of opium (ghani) heroin packed in 38 tobacco containers, and drugs and liquor. The heroin was estimated to be worth around Rs. 9.9 Lakhs. It is learnt that the heroin is sold at Rs. 22500 per soap case in the market.
The seized items were destroyed in the presence of media. The Central Administrative Officer of WTR, Samson Jajo, said, “WTR will continue our effort to eradicate the drug menace in our society. Stringent action will be taken against those who are involved in peddling drugs and liquor.” He appealed to the public for support and cooperation in eradicating the drug menace in the Wung Tangkhul Region.
Substance abuse has become a major issue in Ukhrul District. There is an urgent need to address this issue by one and all.
