IMPHAL: BJP youth workers in Manipur protested against the appointment of new president of the party’s youth wing (Manipur unit) on Tuesday. The BJP youth workers including some sitting legislators protested inside the Manipur unit BJP office in Imphal against the appointment of one Akoijam Ramkrishna Singh as president of the state unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).

Among others, the protesting BJP workers included MLAs K Robindro, who is also the Deputy Speaker of state Assembly, and L Sushildro and other prominent leaders of the party state unit.

While protesting inside the BJP Manipur Pradesh office premise, the workers demanded immediate removal of Ramkrishna as president of the BJYM. They alleged that the new president of BJYM had been expelled from BJP Thangmeiband Mandal on the charge of campaigning for another party during the last assembly elections in 2017.

The protesters demanded the state unit president of BJP to consider appointing a prominent leader of the youth workers of the party, as BJYM president, who has worked for the party for a long time. They also said that the BJP youth workers would not like to work under the leadership of Akoijam Ramakrishna.

Protesting at the state office premises, the BJP youth workers displayed placards with various slogans like “Remove incompetent youth president”, “Save the youths,” “Don’t play immoral politics with youths,” etc.

Talking to reporters, the protesting BJP youth workers asserted that they registered the protest only to save the future of the youth workers of the party. They demanded that the state unit president of BJP should clarify on what ground Akoijam Ramkrishna Singh was appointed as president of the youth wing of the party.

Another protester asked as to how they could work for the party under an incompetent leader who is not known to them. As they protested in front of the office chamber of the president, a team of police rushed to the spot and convinced the protesters to calm down.
