NEW DELHI, AUG 9: Zanngasung Zimik has been elected president of the Tangkhul Katamnao Long Delhi (TKLD) for the 2026–2028 term, defeating his rival Eric Thingshung in an election that witnessed one of the biggest gatherings in the history of the Tangkhul students’ body in Delhi.
Zimik secured 763 votes, while Thingshung polled 680 votes, according to the election results declared on Saturday.
The election was held on August 8 at St Thomas Play School, RK Puram, with Zimik emerging victorious after a contest between two candidates with considerable experience in student and community organisations.
Zanngasung Zimik, from Talui village in Ukhrul district, holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Biochemistry. He has previously served as coordinator at Vijay Nagar in 2017–18, TKLD sports secretary in 2022–23, NSUD sports secretary in 2023–24, NSUD assistant general secretary in 2024–25, and NSUD assembly speaker in 2025–26.
During his campaign, Zimik had focused on youth empowerment, career development, transparent and accountable leadership, and cultural and community development. His manifesto proposed career awareness camps, job readiness and skill workshops, professional mentorship, AI and emerging technology awareness, institutional partnerships, SSC and UPSC mentoring, CUET awareness, student consultations and a project monitoring committee.
His rival, Eric Thingshung, is from Hunphung village and is a lawyer by profession. He holds a Political Science (Hons.) degree from the University of Delhi and an LLB from Delhi University, according to his election profile.

The election was conducted by the TKLD Election Commission, comprising Chief Election Commissioner Rihormung Thotmaya Keishing and Election Commissioners Zanmingam Lungleng and Wungmila Shinglai.
