The Zonal Education Office of Ukhrul has directed government-aided and private schools in the district to continue suspension of normal academic activities until the competent authority issue a clear-cut order with standard operating procedure (SOP).
The order was issued following reports of some government-aided and private schools and other educational institutions in the district contemplating resumption of their normal classes.
“In the purview of preparing SOP for reopening of schools and colleges by the state government, it has come to the knowledge of the office that some schools are planning to resume their regular classes,” ZEO RK Mahaokei stated in the order on Saturday.
It then instructed all the government-aided, private schools, coaching centres, hostels etc. under the jurisdiction of the zonal office to continue closure of their institutions.
The order was issued following instructions from the higher authority and power conferred to the office in view of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic until further order with SOP is issued from the competent authority, it said.
“Any schools violating this order will be treated seriously,” it warned.
Earlier, in September, the district administration had also warned against reopening of schools as part of preventive measures against the Covid-19 pandemic.
It stated that “any violators would be liable to be proceeded against as per the provisions of section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, besides legal action u/s 188 of IPC and Manipur Epidemic Diseases (Enforcement of COVID-19 Guidelines) Regulations, 2020”.
