Imphal, Jan 17: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday reiterated his government’s zero tolerance policy for anyone involved in the illegal drugs. He said this barely a day after five police commandos were arrested with a huge consignment of contraband drugs.

“There will be zero tolerance for anyone involved with illegal drugs. Investigation about this case is currently underway. Rest assured, all those who are found guilty will face the wrath of law,” Singh wrote in his Facebook post.

In the post, he congratulated the superintendent of police of Kakching district and the district police team on successfully intercepting the suspected heroin and WY tablets from a police commando team on Monday.

Amid the intensified poppy plant destruction drive as a part of government’s ‘war on drugs’, the team of Kakching police on Monday seized a huge quantity of drugs worth crores of rupees and arrested the five police personnel carrying the contraband drugs.

A total of 1.336 kg of suspected heroin powder and 9.151 kg of suspected WY tablets were detected from the vehicle the police commandos were travelling in from Moreh to Imphal along NH-102.

The chief minister reiterated his government’s zero tolerance policy on illegal drugs even as the opposition Congress questioned who will take the moral responsibility for the involvement of the five policemen in the drug transportation.

He asked if the Manipur Home minister or the DGP would take the moral responsibility. “Would they tender resignation on moral ground?” he asked.
