Shillong, Jan 16:  Merely days after its launch on National Youth Day, Meghalaya Trinamool Congress’s ‘Youth First’ campaign has reached hundreds of youth across the state.

Youth leaders have also been visiting colleges and meeting local youth activists to discuss plans and policies for Meghalaya. Since Friday (January 13), members of the Meghalaya TMC Students’ Union and Meghalaya TMC Youth Committee have been meeting youngsters across the length and breadth of the state to apprise them of the opportunities that will be created through the Meghalaya TMC’s plan of action for the state. Party leaders said that the idea of the initiative is to engage with the youth at the grassroots to understand their hopes and aspirations.

“We want to initiate a conversation around the youth of our state who have been deprived of opportunities for far too long. This is why we are undertaking this campaign where we will meet the youth, talk to them about their aspirations, share our party’s vision, and urge them to join our movement to empower Meghalaya,” said Bansharailang Pyngrope, State President, Meghalaya TMC Students’ Union.

He further added, “It is evident to see that people from different sections of society, including students, youth, and women are devastated due to the negligence and deliberate ignorance of the NPP-led MDA government over the last 5 years. While the youth are reeling under extreme unemployment issues, the government chooses to remain in slumber.”

Pyngrope also explained that the government’s lack of interest in the development of the state has restricted employment and education opportunities for the younger generation. “The government’s apathy towards the youth poses a serious threat to our future”, he also said.

Pyngrope then said that the MDA government has not just failed the people but is also choosing to remain a silent spectator as the common people battle hardships created by those in power. “We will no longer tolerate this grave injustice. Those who played with our future should know that their time is up,” he added.

According to Meghalaya TMC, different teams have been deployed across the state to interact with the youth. These teams will talk to students and youth about the Meghalaya Youth Empowerment (MYE) Scheme that promises 3 lakh jobs in the next five years and financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per month for unemployed youth of the state.
