CHURACHANDPUR: The 78th Zomi Nam Ni 2026 was on Friday celebrated at EBC Gospel Centenary Hall, Hebron Veng in Churachandpur, Manipur.
Held under the theme of “Enduring power of identity & tradition”, the annual event of the Zomi community was graced by Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur Losii Dikho as Chief Guest and president of Hmar Inpui, Mizo People Convention as Special Guest. Besides, the SP and DC of Churachandpur and Pherzawl district, Commander of 27th Sector AR, CO of 1st IRB, CO of CRPF also attended the event.
During the programme various cultural activities and meaningful choreographies were performed by the Zomi constituent cultural groups who showcased their resilience and endurance for peace since time immemorial.

In his speech, the chief guest congratulated the organiser, Zomi Council, for their efforts in organising the event and said that the event highlighted the history of the Zomis. “The Zomis are peace-loving and a God-fearing people, Dikho said and urged them to accept the peace efforts initiated by the Chief Minister of Manipur, Yumnam Khemchand.
He told the gathering that he had a talk with the CM of Manipur regarding the Lamka Public Ground to be turned into a football ground in line with the FIFA regulation, the ZC complex would be made a multi purpose site, for which Rs 5 crore will be earmarked with the approval of the CM.
The message of Thanlon AC MLA Late Vungzagin Valte was read out on the occasion. Valte called for the unity of Zomi while also urging the leaders to look into the construction of NH 102B, which is yet to be completed. The late leader also appealed to make the Zomi Nam Ni as a General Holiday in Manipur, which is presently a restricted holiday.
Churachandpur AC MLA LM Khaute and the Thadou Inpi Manipur, Indigenous Tribe Advocacy Committee also conveyed their best wishes to the organiser of the Zomi Nam Ni.
