UKHRUL/DELHI: Zeliangrong Students’ Union Delhi (ZSUD) and Zeliangrong Welfare Association Delhi (ZWAD) on Sunday appealed to all concerned to ensure the immediate, safe, and unconditional release of the Naga civilians allegedly abducted by Kuki groups on May 13.

On May 15, 14 Naga civilians, including 12 women who had been held at Leilon Vaiphei village, along with two persons associated with the Salesian Provincial Office in Dimapur who were reportedly detained in the Sapermeina area in Kangpoki district were released. However, the whereabouts of six males from Konsakhul, a Naga village, who were reportedly being held at Leilon Vaiphei village, remain unknown till date. Fourteen Kuki individuals who were detained at Ireng Liangmai village near Singda Dam and in Senapati have also been released on the same day.

Expressing anguish and grief, the two organisations also condemned the brutal killing of Thadou Baptist Church leaders on May 13. ZSUD and ZWAD further condemned the continuing acts of intimidation and communal provocation unfolding in Manipur, which have once again “endangered” innocent lives and gravely threatened the peace and coexistence among communities.

The organisations extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and expressed solidarity with the families of those who continue to remain in captivity, and pray for the full and speedy recovery of all those injured. ZSUD and ZWAD unequivocally condemned all forms of violence, hate-driven rhetoric, communal intimidation, and attempts to exploit human tragedy for political or sectarian interests.

“No cause, ideology, or grievance whatsoever can justify the taking of innocent lives or the unlawful detention of fellow human beings,” their statement read.

ZSUD and ZWAD appealed to all concerned groups and individuals to ensure the immediate, safe, and unconditional release of the abducted Naga civilians who continue to remain in captivity, with no proof of life or assurance of their safety till date, and to refrain from any actions, statements, or demonstrations that may further inflame tensions or endanger communal harmony.

The organisations particularly urged conscience-keepers, community leaders, and civil society or ganisations to intervene with the concerned parties and facilitate their safe return without further delay.
