ZUF Steps Up Action Against Illegal Settlers

UKHRUL, NOV 18: The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) on Monday intensified its campaign against what it calls illegal encroachment on Zeliangrong–Inpui ancestral land, destroying poppy cultivation sites and dismantling farm huts and other structures attributed to “illegal immigrant intruders” in the Waphong area under Sapermeina sub-division of Kangpokpi district.

This marks the third such operation carried out by the ZUF in recent weeks. ZUF said the actions were intended to protect ancestral territories from what it described as ongoing illegal occupation and activities that undermine the security, identity and rights of indigenous communities.

Calling for unity among local groups, the ZUF urged all indigenous communities to remain vigilant and work together to safeguard their land. “Collective vigilance and cooperation are essential before the situation escalates beyond control,” it said. It also urged the including the state and central force to follow suit.

ZUF then reiterated that it has repeatedly warned “refugees and illegal settlers” to stop all unlawful activities within Zeliangrong–Inpui areas, including the operation of Suspension of Operation camps, poppy cultivation, unauthorised village expansion and conducting checks on local residents. It cautioned that further violations “will not be tolerated.”
