100 goods-laden trucks reach Imphal: PRO Defence

Imphal: A convoy of 28 vehicles including trucks, fuel tankers, JCB etc carrying rice, sugar, pulses and fuel moved under escort of CRPF and Manipur Police from Noney to Imphal on May 15, PRO (Defence), Kohima and Imphal in a press release informed on Thursday.

Prophylactic domination of the area was provided by Assam Rifles to ensure safe passage to the convoy which reached Imphal safely by afternoon. In addition, monitoring was also ensured through Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, it added.

Another set of approximately 100 vehicles were moved on May 16 and 17, the release informed.

“Security Forces remain committed to restore normalcy and the commencement of movement of the vehicles on National Highway-37 is another step towards the normalcy in Manipur,” PRO (Defence), Kohima and Imphal said.

In another news, 1,674 LPG cylinders from Sekmai bottling plant left for Churachandpur in 10 trucks escorted by BSF, Assam Rifles and CRPF on Tuesday. NH 37 (Imphal-Silchar route) is being used as alternate route for transportation of essential supplies. 74 goods-laden trucks left from Jiribam for Imphal on Tuesday.
