District surveillance officer reported 11 new Covid-19 positive cases in Ukhrul district on Wednesday and 53 active cases. In view of the impending threat in the area, District Magistrate had declared immediate containment measures in the area to prevent further spread of the disease.
The areas where immediate containment measures have been clamped down are: Resident of Rinchui Shaiza, Viewland Zone 2; Resident of Ningkhan KVS, Kaziphung Kapaitang, Hungpung; Resident of Chonyaphi Shangh, Khamphasom near SP, quarter; Phungmitun Mung, Alungtang, near Alice Christian School.
It had ordered for immediate sealing of the house/ compound, barred entry and exit of the population from the containment area, and had asked to initiate active surveillance of Covid – 19 cases.
In view of the new cases, the District Magistrate Ukhrul in exercise of the powers conferred upon him under para 12 of the “Manipur Epidemic Disease, Covid -19 Regulations, 2020” had declared the containment measures in the following geographical areas with immediate effect.
Any person, institution and organisation found violating any of these measures shall be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under section 188 of Indian Penal Code and Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the orders issued by Joseph Pauline Kamson, IAS further stated.
Meanwhile, effective May 5 midnight till May 15 midnight, the Tangkhul Co-ordination Forum on COVID-19 (TCFC) declared Public Lockdown in all Tangkhul villages in view of the increasing number of COVID-19 Positive cases. The lockdown announcement have however received criticism for it’s suddenness, while others have opined that such decision should be left for the District Magistrate and the competent administrative authority.
