TAPHOU: The 112 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Saturday organised a 10-km marathon under the “Spandan–Khelo India” initiative at Taphou in Kangpokpi district, with 54 participants from different communities taking part in the event.
The event was organised under the aegis of the IGP M&N Sector in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) under the theme “Spandan” — Sports for Peace and Development Across Nation — with the objective of promoting community engagement, peace and harmony through sports.
Of the 54 participants, 22 were from the Nepali community, 21 from the Naga community and 11 from the Kuki community, according to the organisers.
The marathon witnessed participation from local youth, students, sports enthusiasts, CSO representatives and community leaders from Naga, Kuki and other surrounding villages.
Kh Zabed Hussain, 19, of Lilong Ubakthong Makha, emerged as the winner, completing the 10-km marathon in 34 minutes and 52 seconds.
Maheingam Teinamei secured the second position with a timing of 37 minutes and 56 seconds, while Kullakpam Albas finished third in 38 minutes and 12 seconds.
The winners were felicitated with medals and certificates in recognition of their performance and sporting spirit.

Speaking on the occasion, 112 Battalion CRPF Commandant Ranjan Baruah highlighted the role of sports in developing discipline, confidence, teamwork, leadership and a healthy outlook among young people.
Baruah said such events were also organised to bridge the gap between security forces and civilians, while providing an opportunity for greater interaction between the forces and local communities.
He further emphasised that the CRPF remains committed to undertaking community-oriented activities aimed at youth engagement, empowerment and overall development.
Despite drizzle during the event, participants displayed enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the marathon.
