170 Fish Farmers Trained in Integrated Fish Farming Across Ukhrul

UKHRUL: Three training programmes on integrated fish farming were conducted across Ukhrul district to enhance the technical knowledge and skills of fish farmers and familiarise them with government schemes and financial assistance available for fisheries and aquaculture development.

The programmes were held at Teinem on September 29, Paorei on September 30 and Ukhrul district headquarters on October 1, organised by the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), North Eastern Regional Centre (NERC), Guwahati, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Government of Manipur.

Around 170 fish farmers participated in the three programmes.

The training sessions covered integrated and composite fish farming, breeding and seed production of carps, and other practices aimed at improving fish production and farm sustainability.

The resource persons, Dr Dorothy M.S., technical executive, NFDB-NERC, Guwahati, and Dr Sonan Ngakang, ichthyologist, also briefed participants on government schemes, financial assistance and opportunities available for the development of fisheries and aquaculture.

The farmers interacted with the resource persons, sharing their experiences and challenges and seeking practical guidance on applying integrated fish-farming practices under local conditions.

The programmes concluded with participants appreciating the practical sessions, which organisers said would help strengthen technical capacity and promote sustainable fisheries and integrated farming practices in the district.
