Chandel: A two-day awareness cum exhibition program on ‘Organic Products of Manipur’ with the theme “Let the consumer know” under Manipur Organic Value Chain Development For NorthEast Region (MOVCDNER) was organised by Pakan Organic Farmers Producer Company Limited, Chandel in association with project director of Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Chandel on Tuesday at Hnatham village. The two-day event (28th-29th November) was sponsored by the Department of Agriculture, government of Manipur.

Food Safety Officer, Chandel Dr Sh Wilson and Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) KVK, Chandel Ts Leenda Monsang attended the program as a resource person. Dr Wilson spoke on the topic “General Provisions of the Food Safety and Standard Act 2006” and highlighted briefly ‘Consumer Consciousness and Awareness: Product Information and Authentication,’ as well. During his enlightening speech, he encouraged farmers in particular to produce organic food with nutritional and health benefits. Ts Leenda spoke on the topic “Significance of Organic Farming in Manipur”. She urged the farmer attendees not to get themselves discouraged but to continue to work hard in producing more organic food products by depending on manual and natural fertilizers for the benefit of human health and society in the long run perspective.
Wl Robertson Anal, Chairman, Pakan Organic Food Producer’s Company Ltd, Chandel, in his keynote address, mentioned that the focus of the program is to educate farmers and consumers about the importance of organic farming, the nuances of food safety and management system, consumer rights, skill development etc.
The program was also attended by Ts Gladney Monsang, District Agriculture Officer, Chandel, Ps Jumas, chief Chandel Khullen village, Ps. Monihring, chief Panchai village, Js Jamvol, Pastor Hnatham Baptist Church, Kl Kono, Deacon Hnatham Baptist Church among many farmers from the Chandel district headquarters neighbouring villages. The farmers especially the womenfolks brought local organic vegetables from their fields perched near the perennial Chakpi River and kitchen gardens for exhibition and sale during the two days awareness cum exhibition event.
