3 Railway workers killed in Noney District landslide

Three labourers working for Tribeni Constructions Limited engaged in railway project died on Monday afternoon due to sudden landslide in a box culvert which buried the three.

The location of the incident took place in between Khongshang and Thingou Village near bridge no. 65 NF railway (Jiribam-Imphal) line, about 15 km north from Nungba police station at around 2:50 PM, sources said.

According to police, the construction company is currently working in between Khongshang and Thingou village under Nungba Police Station, Noney District.

Immediate rescue operation was launched to rescue the three by other construction workers and army jawans but were found dead buried in the debris, sources said. All three bodies have been retrieved trapped inside the culvert.

One victim is from West Bengal identified as Kartik Mondal (46) and the other two are from Assam identified as Munu Rabha (21) and Deep Rabha (18).

Amidst the ongoing monsoon’s incessant rains since last night, normal life has been paralysed in Noney and Tamenglong District. Reports of landslides and mudslide have occasionally occurred in many places. The volume of flowing river water is almost reaching danger mark in rivers such as Ijei ,Irang, Barak, Makru and Leimatak.
