32 more Omicron cases in Manipur, logs 235 COVID-19 cases

The Health department advised all to adhere to COVID appropriate behavior and vaccinate fully.

Imphal: The number of Omicron cases in Manipur rose to 39 with the detection of 32 more cases on Monday.

The Health department said that 32 Omicron cases were detected in various districts of the state. However, the Health department did not give further details about the development. The Health department then advised all to adhere to COVID appropriate behavior and vaccinate fully, saying “Be alert and do not panic”. Masks were found effective against all variants of COVID-19, it added.

It can be mentioned here that the first Omicron case in Manipur was detected on December 27 after a man who returned from Tanzania was tested positive for the disease. Later, it rose to seven when six more people including three close contacts of the first case were tested positive for the new variant that is spreading fast in the country.

Meanwhile, Manipur reported fresh cases of COVID-19 above 200-mark for the second consecutive day on Monday. The state reported 235 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

It can be mentioned that Manipur recorded 279 cases the previous day with the highest daily test positivity rate (TPR) of 14.40% for the current year. Today’s TPR was 11.9%, the Health department said while asserting that the 235 fresh cases including 15 personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) were detected upon testing of 1,974 samples.

As no death related to the pandemic was reported in the last 24 hours, the fatality toll remained at 2,015.

The number of active cases in the state also rose to 1457 from the previous day’s 1282 as the daily surge continued to outnumber the discharged cases.
