Ukhrul: Dr. Khanmi Kasomva of Hungpung village in Ukhrul district, who is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, where he works on chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer has been selected to join the Medical College of Wisconsin, United States of America.

Sources close to Dr. Khanmi Kasomva told Ukhrul Times that he will be working on multiple myeloma and myeloid leukemia with the most renowned hematology and oncology scientist of the USA. He will join the Medical College of Wisconsin as a research scientist with an annual salary of Rs. 50 lakh.

Dr. Khanmi is the eldest son among seven siblings of Luingam and Jointy Kasomva of Hungpung village.

He did his schooling at Hill View English School, Tushar village, and secondary schooling at Sacred Heart Hr. Secondary School, Hungpung, Ukhrul respectively. He then went on to pursue his higher education at Loyola College, University of Madras, Chennai.

Dr. Khanmi then completed his  Ph.D. in Biotechnology, specializing in cancer biology, working on the role of MicroRNAs in prostate cancer development and metastasis under the supervision of Dr. Fr. S. Ignacimuthu, S.J., former Vice Chancellor of the University of Madras, and Dr. Gabriel Pauraj, in collaboration with the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong, and the ICAR-Research Complex for the NEH Region, Umiam.

He is a recipient of the Indian Academy of Sciences Fellowship.
