Addressing media at the spot, KS. Solomon, Convenor, Maram-Phaibung Road Development Committee stated that no authority has come for reconstruction of the Barak Bailey bridge that had collapsed last year till date. A past event occurred where land owners stopped the passage of commuters on March 10, Friday stating the allotted time had lapsed since the month of January. All commuters on the way to Senapati and going back homeward on Friday were forcefully denied entry into the river through private land that is temporarily used for passage by crossing the river. Land owners had already installed a notice that the allotted time for the passage was till last January, 2023 and another one which read that the last date for passage was till March 10, 2023.

However, with timely intervention of Senapati DC, understanding has reached between the land owners and Maram-Phaibung Road Development Committee to let commuters pass as an alternative till date for a short duration. It is stated that around 300-400 vehicles including heavy and light vehicles ply along the route daily. Once the rain sets in, commuters will no longer be able to pass along the river where the river is joined by many tributaries creating fear psychosis with no alternative to pass along the route. The convenor of the road development committee appeals to the concerned authority to look into the matter without any delay so as to ensure free passage without any hindrance.

Mention may be made that majority of the Poumai Naga villages pass through the road as well as a connecting passage from Senapati to Ukhrul through the route.
