CHURACHANDPUR: The third Separation Day was observed today at Martyrs Cemetery in Sehken, Churachandpur District. The event was organized by the Zomi Council GHQ, with the theme “Honoring & Remembering the Sacrifice of Our Fallen Heroes.”

The occasion, which began in the afternoon, was attended by the MLA of Churachandpur A/C, LM Khaute, alongside leaders from various frontal organizations under the Zomi Council GHQ. In his speech, the MLA reflected on his connection to the martyrs, especially his friend, the late Vungzagin Valte, MLA, who was present during the Separation Day observance in 2025. He pledged his commitment to continue fighting for the cause for which the martyrs sacrificed their lives.
The event also featured remarks from a family member of the late Vungzagin Valte, as well as speeches from LM Khaute and the Chairman of the Zomi Council, Vumsuan Naulak. Before the start of the program, the wife of the late Vungzagin Valte inaugurated a pavilion at Martyrs Park in Sehken. This pavilion was built in memory of his driver, Thanghoulal, who lost his life during an attack on their party in Imphal on May 4, 2023, by Arambai Tengol.

Highlights of today’s Martyrs’ Day program included a mass prayer for the departed martyrs led by the Zomi Prayer Bands, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony honoring each of the 128 martyrs with tributes from the organizers.
