40-year-old non-local shot dead in Ccpur

Churachandpur: A non-local said to be a 40-year-old was shot dead in Churachandpur on Friday evening around 7 pm.

According to news report in The Hills Journal (THJ), the deceased is identified as Anand Gupta, son of Pambusham Gupta of Rota district Bihar, a resident of Eden Hotel, Salem Veng Churachandpur. Anand is survived by his wife and two children. The motive leading to the killing is yet to be ascertained.

Anand Gupta who stayed in a rented house with his brother running a variety shop business at Zion Street, Salem Veng was shot dead allegedly by two armed assailants Friday evening.

Non-Local shops owners in Churachandpur headquarters downed shutters in protest against the murder of of non-local on Saturday.

The report said, Shiv Shanker Secretary of the Bihari Society, Churachandpur speaking to THJ said, the mortal remains of Anand will be taken to Bihar Saturday by 3:00 pm flight. All the Bihari businessmen went to Imphal airport to bid farewell to the departed soul. Shiv Shanker appealed one and all to desists from committing such heinous crimes on the Bihari community as they too are human beings trying to earn money for their livelihood.
