45-year-old rapist in Ukhrul police custody, to be sent to jail on March 31

A 45-year-old man recently arrested by Ukhrul police for raping a minor girl, is currently in Ukhrul police custody and he would be sent to jail on March 31.

The accused Ningthoujam Brojen (45) S/o Late Gunnu of Heituppokpi, Heirok Part-I, was caught from his home at around 6:30 pm on March 23.

The man was arrested by a team of Ukhrul Police led by SI Marchang W with the assistance of OC, Heirok Police Station in connection with FIR No. 1(3)2021 Women Police Station, Ukhrul.

“He is currently in our custody and would be sent to jail on March 31,” a source from Ukhrul police said.

The accused reportedly committed sexual assault against a minor child of 11 years in the month of December in 2020 while he was engaged in house construction works in Kamjong district.

According to the police, the matter only came to light after a medical examination. “The victim complained of problems in her urinal tract and other health complications concerning her private parts,” the police said.

Fearing backlash as she was warned with dire consequences by the accused, the victim girl didn’t speak up until she complaint of health complications.

Earlier, the victim child could not reveal the incident as she was threatened by the accused with dire consequences if she did so, the police said.

Police said the case was primarily registered at Imphal West Women Police Station and later transferred to Ukhrul Women Police Station as the place of occurrence fell within Kamjong district.

It is learnt that both Kamjong and Ukhrul districts are within the functional jurisdiction of Women Police Station, Ukhrul as there is no separate Women Police Station for Kamjong presently.
