Ukhrul: The much awaited 56th edition of the Raphei Katamanao Saklong general conference cum sports, cultural and literary meet 2022 kicked off on Friday at Langdang village in Ukhrul district under the theme “Education for Quality Life.”
Hosted by Langdang Katamnao Long at Langdang village, 28 units are taking part in the most prestigious and biggest sporting event of the area.
Miss Raphei, football, volleyball men’s & women, declamation, extempore speech, debate, essay writing, poetry writing, drawing, quiz, talent hunt, folk song, folk dance, traditional attire show, tug of war, and top spin are the main attractive competition event.
In a highly competitive inaugural match, defending champion Peh Katamnao Long beat Chingai Katamnao Long 2-1, while Marem defeated Phungcham 5-0 in the second match.
On the other hand, in the men’s volleyball first match, Poi defeated Paorei and Sihai Khullen won against Huishu. In the women volleyball match, Lunghar lost to Halang, while Poi was declared winner as Khamasom Wallele didn’t turn up.
The ongoing ten days long sporting, cultural and literary event will conclude on January 22.
Speaking at the occasion, Yirei Shangrei, social worker who attended as inaugural chief guest exhorted participating team to keep the sporting spirit high and wished the occasion a grand success.
Stating that MLA Khashim Vashum, 45 -Chingai (ST) assembly constituency was to graced the event as inaugural chief guest, he said Khashim presence would have make it more prominent and meaningful. He, however, couldn’t make it to the programme as modal code of conduct has been announced.
In his greeting message to the people of Raphei, MLA Khashim conveyed his appreciation to the Raphei citizens especially RKL president and his team for successfully organising the 56th General Conference cum Sports, Cultural and Literary meet at Langdang village. “Though I couldn’t be with you in person my Raphei spirit is with you all.”
Khashim then urged all the teams to uphold sportsmanship and team spirit in the sporting event in the 10 day long meet, and wish a grand success.

According to RKL, Langdang is one of the oldest village in Ukhrul district stretching between 94.40 latitude and 25.12 longtitude (25.1238 North and 94.4044 East.)
It is located in the northern part of Ukhrul district, Manipur. The village is 13 Km away from Ukhrul headquarters and 95 km from the state capital, Imphal.
According to 2011 census report, the village has a total population of 1135 having 207 households and 72.3% literacy rate.
Landang is famous for its large scale plum cultivation. It is flanked by Mapum in the East, Shirui in the North, Ukhrul in the West and Choithar in the South.
It is a place for nature lovers with eco-friendly surroundings and environment. The beautiful landscape, mountain terrain and scenic beauty makes it an attractive tourist destination.
